SOUL SISTER
As our mission is to continue and educate the community on preserving the culture of music through the contributions of black women pioneers in music with a niche for vinyl, we are delighted to start this special edition series with a well respected gem of a DJ Artist, record collector starting at the age of 6, Writer, Researcher, Curator, Archivist and native of New Orleans, Louisiana… DJ Soul Sister.
Soul Sister’s notable work throughout the community involves hosting her Soul Power show on WWOZ FM New Orleans for over 25 years along with other international radio shows, self-producing her first event in 1997 as one of the longest running DJs in her hometown as the first recipient of the “Best DJ” award from the Big Easy Entertainment, to being featured in New Orleans Jazz Museum and Dust & Grooves: Adventures in Record Collecting book.
DJ Soul Sister accomplished this all while DJin festivals like Essence from 2008-2010, opening sets for a long lists of her favorite artists like George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic and being a Researcher & Curator of the Hogan Archive of New Orleans Music and New Orleans Jazz, Tulane University Special Collections with an extensive record collection of her own.
