YVONNE

Warm welcomes from a record collector from Dayton, Ohio… Yvonne. This soulful lightworker has collected records since she was a little girl and have appreciated the thrill and routine of building her record collection.

"I just recently found a record that I am very happy to have in my collection! “BlowOut Comb” by Digable Planets is a gem!! It is pure hip hop! This album and the group took hip hop to another level! Great hip-hop classics are on this album! It is definitely one of my prize possessions from my record collection!"

What made you start Collecting Records?

My father was a huge record collector. I remember going to the record store with him all the time when I was a little girl! I remember the thrill and excitement of being around all those records! I wanted to feel that again! I love the hunt of looking for vinyl and then finding it! I love the routine of taking a album out of the cover....putting it on the turntable and the needle touching it for the first time!

What is the first record you’ve bought?

Nina Simone- Little Girl Blue

What are the most recent records you’ve added to your collection?

Peter Tosh-Bush Doctor

The Sun Ra Arkestra- Sun Song

Curtis Mayfield- Love Is The Place

Sheila E- In The Glamorous Life

How many records do you think you have without counting?

450

How do you organize your record collection?

My vinyl albums are on shelves that I have ran out of space for a few months ago. It is time to get another shelf. I have the groups together...then the male artists...female artists...reggae albums...jazz albums...and then international artists group together.

What is a day of crate digging like?

I am always at Omega Record Store at 10:00am...when it opens. I usually dig for an hour! I start with the $1 crates. Then the R&B/Soul crates. Next I dig in the Reggae, African, and then the Jazz crates!

Where does your music influence and taste come from?

Parents and myself
