What made you start collecting records?
The nostalgic feeling and simplicity of the beautiful piece of wax.
What is the first record you’ve bought?
I’m not really sure but I believe it might be a 7” single from a local punk band when I was in high school (Support your local bands!)
What are the most recent records you’ve added to your record collection?
I say, I love you / Sweet Lovin' Mama by Johnny Watson
What records are you looking to add next?
I’m craving for a lotta lounge and Exotica!
How many records do you think you have in total without counting?
Wow I would roughly guess 500-600 or maybe more? I don't have a huge collection like most DJs, and I only spin 45s.
How do you organize your record collection?
For my 45s I store them in the old school big plastic storage bins, for LPs I store them in wooden racks/shelves.
What is a day of crate digging like?
Hopping back and forth to record stores and thrift stores. I’m not a huge germaphobe but hand sanitizer and wet wipes is a must! lol
How does music make you feel?
I can’t fully explain it in words, it gives you a high, it’s a powerful vibration, the energy resonates with you forever, you know that feeling when your feet starts tapping and hips start moving from hearing that favorite tune..its magicK!
How important is music and having records apart of your life?
I was born and raised in music, it’s like air and water, it’s a necessity, keeps me grounded, keeps me inspired, keeps me going.
Vinyl is my favorite medium to work with, favorite to touch, listen and collect. There is just something very romantic about it.
Why do you believe women’s music taste vital?
Music doesn't have gender division but I believe the female energy is just naturally powerful and relatable. I personally feel that the female has a diverse palette of musical taste so it will keep a balance within both female and male energies.
What advice do you have for other females who want to start collecting records?
Get a decent record player, cartridge, don't rush to build a huge collection and find whatever sparks your interest. Get ready to fix space for your collection tho! haha
As a DJ, do you feel it’s important to have a record collection even if you don’t use them for sets?
Yes and No.
It’s important to add knowledge about the history, the science and terminology of music, especially vintage music -for example, how it is set as a compilation and bind with certain tracks, the artwork, and information on the vinyl itself.
However, I don’t think it’s a “necessity” to have a physical vinyl collection in my opinion, to have them is like extra points!
